Part of being human is that we have moods. Sometimes we are in the mood to design, and sometimes we are in the mood to sit on the couch, eat Cheetos and watch TV.
When you are in the mood to be creative and make something, go do it! People will tell you you’re working too hard, or that you are supposed to enjoy sitting on the couch, eating Cheetos, and being lazy.
Personally, one of my BIGGEST pet peeves, is when people try telling me what I want and don’t want. (For example: “No, you don’t want to move to the big city. Everyone says that, but they all come back.”)
Whether it’s marketers or peer pressure, we constantly have people telling us what we are supposed to want. But as a designer and creator in this world, it’s important to think for yourself, and do what you really want to do, not what someone else told you to you want to do.
So if you want to do architecture, do it to the hilt. People will call it “work,” and say that you should escape from it using things like alcohol and television. But if you are going to be a designer and a decision maker for the way we build the world, then you need to be the one who decides what you actually want to do with your time.
